A group formed around the three ideas of Organising permaculture, building local networks, linking to other networks We were asked to consider - the current situation
- the challenges
- opportunities
- What we would like to achieve at the IPC and where we would like support.
[/b] Take over the big tent with a mapping exercise. [NOTE: A map will be put up on the wall for people to share where they are and what their experience is]

You can also see a map of strategic networking organisations on the Next Big Step website here: international.permaculture.org.uk/mapThere are lots more to be added. If you are involved in an organisation aimed at connecting permaculture people and projects in your region, do sign up! For all permaculture projects, there is a great map here: www.permacultureglobal.com/projects

On Saturday at the IPC, the discussions continued... Luckily some work had already been done – we are looking at strategic planning and strategic thinking already happening, incorporating into NBS (Ed Walta, Australia) – questions like, - where are we now, - where do we want to be - how do we get there We felt this was a traditional business framing so we talked about how we tranlsated that into our way of doing things. Resource about building networks : reference - T ed Talk – 'what new power looks like'We looked at the beginning steps of this site assessment – we aim to do an exercise, at the networking session tomorrow afternoon, to do a massive mapping exercise – and a SWOT analysis – we hope the whole convergence will help with that tomorrow. The land network will feed into your map of strategic networks - going to be a visual exercise on the wall of the big top tent This kind of facilitation is good but it need a lot of time with people, decentralising it with less travel and carbon might be more effective in our local areas? Do we think? This is a nested process where there is 95% of activity happening at grassroots level and then some at regional and some at national and a tiny bit at international level. *** What do you think? Can you help link up permaculture people in your area?

On Monday, the group agreed their goals and plans, and committed to actions.
Intent of group To be a listening group; a supportive facilitation group that enhances the overall efficacy of local, bio regional and global networks. We will design the platforms and processes that enable that to happen.
Plans * Survey what is already out there, not exclusive to permaculture, but including like-minded organisations * Create templates for emerging networks to avoid mistakes and enhance what they are doing * Stories of what this would mean for any one person joining up.
Commitments from individuals We will all commit a few hours of our time each month. Ed Walta main contact. We are all part of the next big step team and we offer to give support in the areas we are interested in

So as few of us are willing to work on mapping... Naomi, in order not to reinvent the wheel, can you please send or post whatever data you have on associations and groups in the network so far?
